Valve seat lathe for in-situ machining of valve seats

Portable valve seat lathe VSL is developed for machining diesel engine valve seats from ø 50 – 230 mm at 20 – 50° angle and designed as a professional tool for machining valve seats on medium speed diesel engines both onboard and ashore.

How does VSL work?

The valve seat lathe is secured to the cylinder head or valve cage (housing) when turned upside down. The machine rotates as it feeds the cutting tool over the valve seat at the predetermined angle. Due to its sturdy design and incorporated features, a high-quality result is achieved quickly, even under the most demanding operating conditions. VSL is portable electrically driven, easy to operate and has the following features:

  • Long life squirrel cage motor for machine rotation
  • Stepless adjustable rotation speed
  • Adjustable machining diameters
  • Self centring pilot spindle
  • Adjustable grinding angles from 0-50°
  • Precision angle setting by means of a dowel
  • When not in use, the portable lathe and accessories are stored in the storage box (protective carrying case).

The VSL is available for most engine manufacturers, like: Bergen, MAN B&W, and Wärtsilä

VSL – a sustainable machine

VSL is a robust high-precision machine that can be operated by one single person.  It enables large quantity, in-situ machining, while minimizing waste and emissions. This means that that the cost per job will be much lower compared to when outsourcing the job. In addition, as service is performed in-situ, logistics costs decrease, thus the carbon footprint will be significantly lower. The machine is therefore a very cost efficient choice.

When performing the service by yourself you can avoid unnecessary waiting time and keep your engines in top condition at all times. By maintaining engine parts in good condition, fewer investments in new engine parts have to be made, which in turn creates less waste. Last but not least,
a healthy engine runs more efficiently and releases fewer emissions.
