CHRIS-MARINE®

Coating Thickness Measurement / CTM

High precision coating thickness measurement on magnetic and non-magnetic base materials.

  • Easy-to-use condition-based maintenance and wear monitoring of piston rings in 2-stroke engines
  • Measures non-magnetic coatings on magnetic or non-magnetic base materials
  • Automatically detects whether the base material is magnetic or non-magnetic
  • Compatible with LDM, trend-plotting software included
  • Reliable and non-destructive measurements even in hard-to-reach areas

The graph shows how the estimated time to next piston overhaul can be predicted using the CTM on the top piston ring of a modern 2-stroke engine. The piston ring wear rate varies from unit to unit, as a result from production tolerances and operating conditions giving opportunity for safer and less costly overhauling by practising condition-based monitoring with the CTM.

Chris-Marine’s coating thickness measurement tool CTM measures coating thickness with high precision on magnetic and non-magnetic base materials.

The coating thickness measurement tool measures the remaining life time of coated piston rings:
-Liner time scale: ~1000 Rh
-Measurement time: ~15 minutes/liner

  • CTM is ideal for condition based monitoring of piston rings in 2-stroke engines.
  • It measures non-magnetic coatings on magnetic base materials, such as chromium plated or plasma coated cast iron.
  • It also measures non-magnetic coatings on non- magnetic base materials, such as plastic coated stainless steel.
  • CTM automatically detects whether the base material is magnetic or non-magnetic.
  • The tool is small enough to make reliable measurements even in hard to reach areas
  • CTM is user-friendly, sturdy and ideal for uncomplicated, reliable and non-destructive in-situ measurements
