Combustion Chamber Tester
Diesel Engine Combustion Chamber Tester for Enhanced Monitoring and Maintenance
The Diesel Engine Combustion Chamber Tester provides reliable and efficient condition monitoring of the combustion chamber in 4-stroke engines. This tool is essential for proactive engine maintenance. Not only does it ensure the health of your engines, but it also helps preventing unexpected breakdowns.
Why Use a Diesel Engine Combustion Chamber Tester?
The combustion chamber tester monitors the condition of the piston ring pack and cylinder liner, two crucial components of diesel and gas engines. Regular inspections with the tester is a valuable addition to existing maintenance procedures.
Moreover, regular combustion chamber testing allows engine operators to identify problems like worn piston rings, excessive liner wear and damaged valve seats. These are issues that might not be detected through traditional cylinder pressure measurements.
Key Benefits:
- Cost Savings: Detecting early signs of wear can lead to significant cost savings by optimizing overhaul schedules. Therefore, unnecessary downtime can be avoided.
- Early Detection of Issues: Problems like broken piston rings, excessive liner wear, and worn valve seats can be detected early, preventing more serious damage.
- Extended Engine Life: Regular monitoring helps extend the life of the engine by addressing wear before it causes major issues.
- Optimized Overhaul Intervals: By customizing overhaul intervals based on the real-time condition of the combustion chamber, you can avoid overhauling engines unnecessarily, thereby lowering operational costs.
How the Diesel Engine Combustion Chamber Tester Works:
The DEC-TESTER operates by connecting its outlet to the indicator clock of the engine cylinder to be monitored, with the piston at TDC (Top Dead Center). The DEC-TESTER inlet connects to an air pressure supply (6-8 bar). The device then regulates the pressure to a predefined level, and measures the pressure difference over an internal orifice, as air flows into the combustion chamber.
- The air flow rate or DEC-TESTER value indicates the condition of the combustion chamber. The more worn the combustion chamber, the higher the DEC-TESTER value.
- This method, used by chief engineers for years, has been enhanced with precise internal pressure regulation, significantly improving the accuracy of the readings.
Achieve Savings Through Regular Condition Monitoring:
Factors like fuel type, lube oil type, load patterns, and ambient temperature, influence engine wear, and they can lead to significant variations in wear, even for engines of the same type. Therefore, hourly-based overhaul intervals may not be the most cost-effective approach.
Engines with poor combustion chamber conditions often have higher lube oil consumption and also more frequent oil filter fouling. By identifying wear early, it is possible to overhaul engines before reaching the recommended overhaul interval, therefore lowering operational costs.
Conversely, engines operating under favorable conditions can extend their overhaul intervals, further reducing costs. Regular monitoring ensures that the right decision is made, whether to overhaul early or delay, based on the actual condition of the combustion chamber.
Why Choose the DEC-TESTER from Chris-Marine?
- Precise Measurement: Provides highly accurate readings thanks to advanced internal pressure regulation.
- Early Problem Detection: Detects wear and potential issues in the combustion chamber that might otherwise go unnoticed.
- Cost-Effective: Helps optimize maintenance schedules and reduce operational costs by preventing unnecessary overhauls and breakdowns.
- Enhanced Engine Performance: Regular condition monitoring ensures your engine operates at peak efficiency, extending its lifespan and improving performance.
